SHAMANISM-THE ANCIENT BELIEF OF TURKS
Shamanism is considered the national religion of all Turkish nations covering with the creation, universe, world, death, joy and thoughts on various topics.It is also a unique belief system only being practised by all types of Turkish groups in different ways. Among nomadic Shaman Turks , it was believed that one’s soul after death was raised up to sky as a flying bird to be unite with sky God. According to written Orhun's inscritions in Mongolia today, the human spirit turns into a shape of a bird as soon as the dead body is put in the grave and it flies to sky immediately so Turks used to call “Flew up “still so common today. Even after the acceptance of Islam among the Turks living in western countries, the phrase “ He became falcon” is used instead of he passed away. The various embodiments , such as giving free meal reception for funeral participants , are made behind the dead mourning ceremony was called “ YUĞ “ in Shamanism and is one of the largest ceremonies connected with the cult of dead in ancient Turks. It is believed that free meals were offered not only the alive participants but also to the death ones. The dead person’s family members with his close friends used to sacrifice sheep & cattle and then they used turn seven times around the tent riding on horses. They used to cry, used to cut their faces with a symbolic knife and sometimes the horses of dead person’s used to be burnt as the sacrifices of sky god. They used to build earthenware shrines such as royal tombs on a hill and they used to make the paintings describing the war scenes on the walls of the shrines.
